Description

Immaculate condition FUJI FM-1 theodolite, a collector's item from FUJI Surveying Instruments Co., Japan. Fuji's involvement in manufacturing optical instruments, including surveying equipment like theodolites, began relatively early in its history. While the primary company, Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd., was established in 1934 to produce photographic films, they quickly expanded into other optical areas. Specifically, in the 1940s, Fuji Photo entered the optical glasses, lenses, and equipment markets. More precisely, Fuji Photo Optical Co., Ltd. was established in March 1944 after obtaining business operations from Enomoto Kogaku Seiki Manufacturing Co., Ltd. This indicates their formal entry into the manufacturing of optical equipment. Therefore, Fuji started manufacturing optical instruments, which would include theodolites, in the 1940s, specifically around 1944. It's important to remember that the surveying instrument division of Fuji was later merged into the PENTAX group in 1967. This means that a "Fuji theodolite" would have been manufactured between the 1940s and 1967. This immaculate FUJI FM-1 theodolite is a true collector's gem from the esteemed FUJI Surveying Instruments Co. of Japan. With a legacy that traces back to the early days of Fuji's foray into optical instrument manufacturing, this theodolite represents a piece of history. Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd., established in 1934, quickly diversified into optical products, and by 1944, under the banner of Fuji Photo Optical Co., Ltd., they began producing high-quality optical equipment, including theodolites.
